Corporate culture essential for innovation

  • Creating a corporate culture in your company can inspire innovation.

Cheryl Perkins, chief innovation officer at global health company Kimberly-Clark, said that a corporate culture should be central to your business activities and management approaches while also being a focus that all of your company’s employees are familiar with.

She suggested that constant re-examining of business activities, approaches and successes will create a positive culture within your company and will encourage and drive innovation for future progress.

Maintaining good lines of communication are, according to Perkins, a key component of creating a positive corporate culture in a business.

She said that frequently sharing the company’s goals in a clear way – not simply procedures and financial results – can build employee loyalty while communicating day-to-day and major issues can inspire your employees to come up with solutions and ideas that you never would have thought of.

The key is not only to communicate but to communicate efficiently on things that matter

Perkins also claimed that companies should be prepared to scrap outdated ideas.

Over the years external and internal changes effect how successful your companies products are. Some of your products will have initial success but will die out or some will become will be consistently high earning.

By understanding your company’s direction you can work with consumers and employees to find out what is and isn’t working for your company. You should always try to focus on your goals and then consider whether all your products are financially viable or not.

By cutting out poor performing products you can reinvest money to achieve your direction and move innovation forward.

This will be a slow process and will happen time and time again but these moves are necessary for success.
