Energy efficiency is a core business strategy

A new study has revealed that eco-friendly business strategies can pay dividends for companies.

The research, conducted by the US’s Pew Center on Global Climate Change, claimed that an energy efficiency program could reduce emissions, save money, sharpen a firm’s focus, and provide other benefits.

The report examined companies which had benefited from making energy cuts and identified seven habits which other businesses should adopt if they want to achieve similar success.

  1. Efficiency is a central element of the business strategy
  2. Fully committed leadership to energy efficiency –trying new ideas
  3. Focused goals are outlined and established
  4. Data collection is constant and on going
  5. Extra resources earned are re-invested
  6. Outcomes are demonstrated
  7. Results are effectively communicated.

Get your employees to examine where energy is wasted and invest money to tackle these issues.

According to Pew ensuring that ceilings are properly insulated, installing high efficiency windows, replacing shoddy doors, implementing recycling schemes, re-examining lighting and heating systems and reconsidering worker travel arrangements firms can reduce their energy costs by 10 to 20 percent.

Often energy efficient companies also create a niche for themselves – attracting more environmentally conscious customers.

Having a long-term sustainability aims and being prepared to tackle wasteful aspects of your business can streamline productivity and push your employees to come up with new ideas for services.
