Help innovation ideas flow

  • There are number of hurdles that can get in the way of innovation’s noble quest.

Cynicism, poor planning and lack of implementation can stop creative new business strategies from revolutionizing your company.

Many people approach idea generation ‘brainstorming sessions’ with a fair amount of scepticism and don’t expect them to be run well or don’t think their ideas will be heard or heeded.

To prevent your ideas sessions from becoming a flop host them frequently to get your staff used to coming up with ideas. It also shows you are committed to innovation and to listening to their views.

Poor planning can be a massive problem when it comes to generating ideas.

As meetings are usually run by the person who knows what kind of ideas they would like to see implemented a lot of good suggestions are abandoned because they may not be on the topic that the session leader has in mind.

Managers should plan innovation sessions months in advance and come up with specific topics for each meeting.

By letting the staff know about these topics well in advance and by sending them regular reminders about the sessions employees focus on specific topics and can even work on proposals for the meetings for weeks before showcasing their idea.

Another area where businesses fail is actually following up on all the great ideas they have coaxed for their staff.

The more ideas, however crazy, that are actually implemented the more likely it is that some of these suggestions will work.

Be prepared for failure but try out creative ideas. It shows employees that their opinions are valued and inspire them to come up with new strategies for your company.
