Microsoft phone innovation praised

Microsoft’s new innovative mobile phone has received praise from surprised analysts.

Experts believe that the Windows Phone 7 Series (WP7) could reignite the multimedia mobile phone market which has for so long been dominated by the iPhone.

Robert Breza, RBC Capital Markets analyst, is quoted by Forbes as calling the WP7 "a big step forward in Microsoft's bid to regain relevance in the competitive smart phone market."

UBS analyst Brent Thill also said that the phone would elevate Microsoft into a greater contender status in the mobile phone system operating wars.

A smartphone’s applications have become the bread and butter for purchasers so Microsoft will have to ensure that it has enough innovation developer support to keep applications fresh and interesting.

Reports suggest that Microsoft completely overhauled the older Windows Mobile software for WP7 to give users a home screen full of live tiles,  to make it more dynamic to use, and to make accessing social networks and games easier too.

More details about WP7’s development platform are expected to be revealed at the MIX Web developer conference in March 2010.
