Samsung rush to counter iPad

A South Korean electronics manufacturer has announced that is trying to develop its own media tablet to rival Apple's iPad.

Samsung’s president of mobile communications J.K Shin claimed that his company would be releasing its own tablet to fill a niche in the iPad market.  "We will respond," Forbes quotes Shin as saying.  Although Shin didn’t revealed any product details or say when it would be released it was disclosed that Samsung was supplying the interior processor for the iPad.

Microsoft chief exec Steve Ballmer also revealed in January that it would be releasing its own e-reader in association with Hewlett-Packard. Samsung has increased its dominance in the smartphone market in recent years and is now the world's second-largest phone manufacturer next to Nokia.
